Yoga and meditation
Why yoga?
When most people think of yoga they equate it to a form of exercise; a way of getting fitter, more flexible, more toned. Whilst all this is true, these are, in my experience, just by-products of a consistent practice.
The real benefits of yoga lie in the ability to connect to you. Yoga is a practice that develops inner awareness, helping to restore a sense of self, which is critically important in recovering from addiction, trauma, depression and anxiety and whole other host of mental and physical disorders.
More and more scientific evidence is proving that body-centered activities that include focus on the breath regulate our internal states and rebuild the connection between our mind and body. This happens mostly in two ways: by activating the neural pathway that allows us to access our internal experience and make changes and by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, taking us from states of flight, fight or freeze into restorative states of rest and digest.
How will yoga work for you?
I am a trained yoga instructor and teach in different styles ranging from dynamic to restorative practices. I am also trained in trauma informed yoga, which focuses more specifically on practicing for mental health disorders.
We will have an initial consultation in which I will get to know about you and what you want and need from your practice and design a yoga discipline that is unique for you. This will generally include a mixture of breath and movement work along with a practice that you can follow easily on your own between led classes.
I can teach one-to-one or in small groups (family yoga is a great way to build connection to each other) face-to-face or online.
What is Yoga Nidra and how it works?
Yoga Nidra (also known as ‘yogic sleep’) is a form of meditation that promotes total relaxation physically, mentally and emotionally. Through integrative stages of awareness, yoga nidra takes you into the delta brainwave state, which is usually only reached during sleep. By keeping you consciously aware in this state you are able to reprogram neural pathways in the brain at a subconscious level. Therefore, allowing you to overcome limiting belief systems that can be the underlying causes of mental and physical health disorders.
There are so many wonderful benefits to Yoga Nidra, here are just a few of them:
Ease insomnia
Decrease anxiety
Alleviate stress
Reduce PTSD, chronic pain and chemical dependency
Heighten awareness and focus
Transform negative habits, behaviours and ways of thinking
Foster feelings of peace, calm, and clarity
Whether you are just at the beginning of discovering yoga or have already been practicing for a while, and whether you are just doing yoga as a general way to move the body or would like to try it for a specific mental or physical health reason; I can tailor an individual and unique practice that will work for your needs and wants.
